[SOLVED] Sony not detecting wireless/cable network

Hello,

My Sony Vaio laptop's internet suddenly stopped working. It says that the wireless is connected at an excellent signal strength and at fluctuating speeds from 1.0 Mbps to 54.6 Mbps. When I use the diagnotic tools it says it's working properly. I even plugged it into an ethernet cord and it still does not work. My main PC (Gateway) desktop's internet works perfectly fine. I tried resetting the wireless router and the regular internet modem. No luck.

I'm thinking maybe there is something blocking my access as in some kind of virus? I don't know.

Any help would be appreciated. And I'll do the same if you need more information.

Thank you.

Re: Sony not detecting wireless/cable network

All right, that is done. There are no changes with the internet, however. If there was supposed to be a change.

Re: Sony not detecting wireless/cable network

The fluctuating speeds may be indicative of wireless interference. Have you tried changing the channel on the router?

Re: Sony not detecting wireless/cable network

Well, the thing is, is that it always used to do that before and worked properly. And another thing that's changed is it's showing both the wireless icon and the network cable with a red x in the taskbar area. In which before, it only detected the wireless icon. So I'm not sure. But maybe I could do a system restore before the point that my wireless went weird? Do you suggest/think that would help?

Thank you

Re: Sony not detecting wireless/cable network

Ahh, so I gave it a go...and it says it was incomplete. And that there were no changes made to my computer.

Sooo.. I really don't know what's going on.

I don't have different channels on my wireless router. Or maybe I don't know how to do so. Haha...

I reset it all again, it still is a no-go.

Re: Sony not detecting wireless/cable network

I'm sure you have the capability to change channels on the router.

It would help a bunch to know where in the world you are located and the make/model of the router.

Re: Sony not detecting wireless/cable network

You can change the channel of that router on the wireless configuration page. of the router's web based setup.

Re: Sony not detecting wireless/cable network

Hmmm, all right, I changed the channel on the router. Still not working.

I find it wierd when opening the network connections folder...The wireless Network Connection says connected. Yet nothing "internet-related" is working. I tried the troubleshooter...it says the device is working properly.

Hmm, just looking around on the troubleshooting help more...I pinged my computer and it says sent = 4, received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss). Everything seems to not be 'operational' with 'system 53 errors' and 'no network path was found.'

Maybe that information will help a bit. I'm trying all I know to figure it out as well. Which may not be much. Haha.

Thank you

Re: Sony not detecting wireless/cable network

Have you upgraded the drivers to the latest available for that Intel wireless card? The connection to the wireless currently appears to be connected.

Nope. I haven't done that before. My current version is 9.0.1.9. I will do so and get back to you on that.

Re: Sony not detecting wireless/cable network

Ok, well I upgraded the drivers. But, unfortunately, no changes have been made. I tried to do an update and all for mozilla just to see and it says 'Could not complete this because there is no connection'. Then why does the wireless icon by the clock and in the network connection folder say it's connected perfectly fine? I don't understand it.

Do you have any further suggestions?

Thank you!
