9 minute dropout

Laptop boots up cleanly, no errors, and will obtain wireless connection with router. After 9 minutes, the connection drops. The computer does NOT lock up; cursor still moves and the machine will operate flawlessly offline. No error windows, no blue screeen.
Rebooting will start the sequence over again and the internet will be available for another 9 minutes.
Two desktops are hard wired to the router and never drop connection. Router is Netgear MR314.
Laptop: Acer 5100 series running XP.

I'd have to be looking for spyware/malware in this scenario first.

Perhaps you have interference on
your current adapter's channel. Try using a different channel for your network.
