Hi everybody!
Just wandered in here looking for some help, so I'm very grateful if someone can help me. I appreciate any help that anyone can give me! Now then, getting to the problem:I have a cable connection - with my cable modem connected to my wireless router (Linksys WRT54GL) via an ethernet cable, and a computer connected directly to the wireless router using another ethernet cable. Up until a couple days ago, the whole set up had worked just fine. Unfortunately, now, the only problem I'm seeming to have is that I can't connect to the Internet using the computer that is connected directly to the router. The computer's using the wireless network I set up using the router works just fine. I'm very confused. Seeing if it was a problem with an Ethernet Interface problem, I tried connecting my computer directly to the Cable Modem, and it worked just fine. I'm at a loss. Any suggestions? |

Re: Direct Router Connection Woes
Hi!
My initial reaction is that it often seems to be a problem with the DNS servers. Some routers do not provide the clients with the DNS servers, even if you tell them to do so. Have you tried if you can access the internet at all (for example pinging google's IP, not name: 64.233.189.104)? Best regards, Jeremia |

Re: Direct Router Connection Woes
Yup, I've tried that too. :(
Code:
Ping request could not find host [insert website/ip here]. Please check the name and try again.

Re: Direct Router Connection Woes
You do know that you can paste this into Notepad and copy it across using a floppy, CD-RW, or USB FLASH drive, right?
![]() I see something very odd, and it's the reason that you can't access the Internet. Quote:

Re: Direct Router Connection Woes
Oh, stupid me.
I should've used my camera in Mass Storage mode to transfer the file transcript. Oh well. LOL. I'll be sure to do that next time! ![]() Anyway, I've already tried doing a factory reset on both the cable modem and the wireless router, but still nothing. I took a glance at the settings for TCP/IP, and it's all what it should be. *shrugs*

Re: Direct Router Connection Woes
The second default gateway obviously comes from the router/DHCP server, but the first one can actually be a local setting on your computer.
(I have seen this before, when local settings and settings from the DHCP server blends together.) Go to the control panel - Network settings. Right click on you network connection and choose properties. I dont remember exactly how it looks, but you have to find the properties for the TCP/IP protocol. From there you can click "Advanced" to see all listed default gateways. If you find a gateway with IP 0.0.0.0, delete it. / Jeremia |

Re: Direct Router Connection Woes
Well, it seems I found a way to get it to work, peeps. :) I tried disabling the Ethernet Interface/Adapter because I noticed that it was connected to two networks at once, which is pretty much impossible. Now the Internet works just fine on the wired and wireless computers. I want to thank everyone for their help! Thanks sooooooooooo much!
