I have browsed your site for help on this problem.
If I leave my dell laptop XPsp2 idle for, say, 2 hours, I lose the internet connection thru the browsers: IE and FF, but OE still connects. So why? I think it started after switching to Zone Alarm firewall, but I have the Automatic Lock turned off. I typed in some extra IP last numbers like 192.168.1.1 192.168.1.2 to make sure they aren't cutoff, but I still lose connection and have restart the PC, and that takes quite a while, as you know. Do you have any other suggestions besides turning off ZA and turning on MS firewall please? And why does OE 6 keep the connection?

Re: keep losing dsl internet connection
Well, as a test, I'd do just what you suggested, turn on the XP firewall and turn off ZA. If that fixes it, we know where to look for the issue.
