[SOLVED] wireless drops
Some friends of mine recently switched from DSL to cable Internet. They previously had wireless via a Buffalo router connected to the DSL. They put in cable Internet and called me to hook everything back up. There are 3 systems on this network; a desktop with a wired connection, a MacBook via wireless and a Dell laptop via wireless. The 2 laptops keep losing connection.
Initially the problem was identified as a bad cable modem that kept reseting every few minutes. That was replaced but the wireless continues to flake. It works while I am there and then fails sometime later. Yesterday I swapped out the Buffalo with a Linksys wireless router. This provided a little more signal strength and seemed to work okay. Today they report that the MacBook can't find the connection but the Dell laptop is okay. They are literally 5 feet from each other and only 30 feet from the wireless. Using WPAPSK2 encryption. The desktop that is wired to the router never loses its connection. Last edited by kurtismonger; 06-05-2007 at 01:33 PM. |

Re: wireless drops
I'd be looking for another wireless network or other interference. First stop is to change channels on the router.
