Unable to ping other computer
I have two computers, each with two Network connections, one via the router and the other direct cable connection. I can ping both computers via the router connection. But I can't ping the gigabit adapters via the direct cable connection. Can anyone help me so that I'm able to share/xfer files over the 1000mpbs network?
I don't know what else to do besides giving the gigabit adapters a static ip address or another default gateway. Normally, I would connect the gigabit adapters to the 10/100mbps DI-524 switch/router so that I can surf the net and share files with each other under the same subnet but the file xfers won't be 1000 mpbs as it would be with direct cable connection but at the moment I don't have a gigabit switch/router. Thanks. Here is a my network diagram setup as best as I can help it visualize. ![]() I've disabled my firewall. Accordingly, I've labeled the IP addresses differently for testing purposes. Appreciate any help or advice/tips. :) Last edited by Stealth3si; 06-04-2007 at 06:52 PM. |

Re: Unable to ping other computer
Failure to ping is almost ALWAYS a firewall component. However, in this case, I'm thinking maybe you need to tinker with the routing tables. Truthfully, I would install a gigabit switch and remove the complexity of two NIC's, you get the best of both worlds. I have two gigabit switches on my network, an 8 port and a 5 port, and they feed the router and allow gigabit connections for all the machines.

Re: Unable to ping other computer
I shop for sales.
My 8 port switch is a Linksys, and it was $30 after rebate.
