Hello All,
I have been struggling with network problems with my Desktop PC and a new laptop for a few weeks and its driving me mad........ I have a desktop pc running XP connected via Ethernet cable to a Belkin Modem/Router F5D7633-4, the PC is also connected to a TalkTalk broadband modem using their software etc. The Desktop PC works fine and connects to the Internet fine. My new Vista laptop connects via WIFI to the router OK and can share files and printers with the desktop BUT cannot connect to the Internet. I am not using the Belkin router also as a broadband modem due to trying this and getting major connection problems onto the TalkTalk internet especially on the desktop. I would appreciate some ideas of where I am going wrong and what I can do. Many Thanks John |

Re: Talk Talk modem - router probles - Help...
Hi John, and welcome to TSF!
![]() Check that the laptop is configured to connect to the internet properly. Also, make sure that a firewall isn't blocking outbound internet requests.

Re: Talk Talk modem - router probles - Help...
Hi Tom,
The firewall is not the issue as I have switched it off just in case, regarding the settings I have set the tcpip to "obtain IP address automatically" on the laptop is this correct ? I would appreciate any suitable settings etc to make sure I am not missing something obvious. Should I try to point the laptop to me Desktop directly ? Thanks for your help John |

On the Vista computer, do this:
Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt: Type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here.

Re: Talk Talk modem - router probles - Help...
If I'm interpretting this correctly, the belkin modem/router isn't connected to the internet and you may be incorrectly using the tower as a dhcp server or a router?
What might work is to attach the talk/talk to the internet connection>then a wire to the modem/router (can the modem part of it be disabled) then a wire to the desktop. |
