Server Hops

I dont know if this is possible but i will ask anyway...
I play online games (Battlefield 2) and it requires a good connection.. But i hop over too many of my own IPS servers and each time i hop theres bigger ping..
Eg..
Tracing route to bf2-3.games.internode.on.net [203.26.94.3]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 1 ms 2 ms 1 ms 192.168.0.1
2 2 ms 1 ms 1 ms 10.1.1.1
3 356 ms 593 ms 473 ms dslgw-211.31.137.132.optusnet.com.au [211.31.137
.132]
4 96 ms 165 ms 267 ms sun4-vl600.gw.optusnet.com.au [211.31.137.2]
5 184 ms 147 ms 180 ms ge3-3.mn3.optus.net.au [61.88.144.113]
6 127 ms 169 ms 118 ms 61.88.221.201
7 252 ms 211 ms 163 ms 61.88.221.201
8 * * * Request timed out.
9 118 ms 117 ms 175 ms gi1-1.cor3.adl2.internode.on.net [203.16.215.40]

10 143 ms 142 ms 133 ms bf2-3.games.internode.on.net [203.26.94.3]

Trace complete.

Is there a way to re-route my connect to different servers with a low ping.. I know i need to hop over servers to get a connection.. But the connection at the moment is crap..
Thanks

Re: Server Hops

No way I know of. However, let's see this, because those times look excessive.

Start, Run, CMD

In the command prompt, type:

PATHPING bf2-3.games.internode.on.net

Right click in the command prompt and select all, hit enter to copy and paste the results here. FYI, here's what I see pinging Yahoo, note the ping times never exceed 100ms, you have some really big ones.

Code:

Re: Server Hops

Look at some of your hop times! 1870ms!!! No wonder you're having a problem.

I suggest you sign up for an account at www.dslreports.com and run their line quality tests, perhaps you can pinpoint the node that is giving you the problem and get the ISP to correct it. Two second ping times are NOT normal!

If you run the line quality tests, post a link here.

Re: Server Hops

Not line speed, line quality. And you'll need to post a link to the results, it's too big to paste into a message, and there's graphic data as well.

Re: Server Hops

I need to be a member to use there line test but i can tell you this...
The house that im currently living in is 3 months old.. All the phone lines are also 3 months old.. The entire 3km of housing around me havnt even been built yet.. I live in a suburb with a population of 20...lol.. I have a friend who works for an electrical company and his company has just replaced all the mainlines around my suburb and have installed a fiber optic....
But to be on the safe side i will signup to dslreports and run there line quality test..

EDIT: Ok.. Its going to cost me to run a line quality test once i have to pay to be a member.. Are there any other sites that will do it for free

Re: Server Hops

It does not cost you to run the line quality tests. I have been signed up there for some time for free, and I've run lots of them. Other people on forums have signed up at my request and also run them free.

Re: Server Hops

OK, your router probably has ICMP requests blocked, you need to enable them to allow the line quality tests to run.

Do you know what port they use to send the ICMP packets. I i carnt unblock all ports for ICMP as that will leave me open for hackers. I have searched there FAQ for anythink retated to ICMP packets but there is none.

Most routers have a configuration option to enable PING requests from the WAN interface.

Lookes like an ISP or modem issue to me. I'm not sure what you can do without their help.

Well ive sent my ISP that data and they have written back saying "every thing seems to be in order". I would really like to hit the guy who wrote that e-mail to me as he plainly didnt read or understand that link.
You sure there isnt a website that could help me in setting up my modem and router for gaming

From the looks of the line quality test, nothing you to to the modem is going to solve the issue.
