WinXPSP2 Not Resolving IP with Netgear DHCP

This is my first post so I hope someone here can help me out.
I have checked many other websites and have searched through these forums and still have not found an answer.

I have a Netgear WPN824 v2 Wireless Router setup for DHCP with a WEP in my home. I have 1 desktop computer hardwired directly to the router and I have 4 people with laptops connecting wirelessly. The problem is only with one laptop running WinXPSP2 not resolving an IP address through the wireless router's DHCP. The 3 other machines can connect fine and 2 of them are running WinXPSP2.

The computer in question resolves the default IP address of 169.254.x.x after not detecting a DHCP service available and not having any alternate IP configuration settings. I checked the router to see if it recognizes the computer trying to connect to it and it does indeed assign an IP address 192.168.1.x to the computer's MAC address through DHCP, but the computer does not use that. If I manually set the IP address it still does not connect. The wireless icon says that it is connected to our wireless network with excellent strength, but when I try to ping our wireless router the requests time out. If I try to ping a website then it tells me it cannot find a host.

I thought it could be the XP firewall blocking it, but the firewall is turned off. I thought it might be a corrupt Winsock file, but the computer connects to all other wireless networks through DHCP just fine and Hardwiring the laptop to the router works fine as well.

Can anyone help me out?

Re: WinXPSP2 Not Resolving IP with Netgear DHCP

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2.

For these commands, Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset reset.log

Reboot the machine.

If that doesn't work, let's see this:

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

Re: WinXPSP2 Not Resolving IP with Netgear DHCP

Tried that and still no luck. I will take this laptop to another wireless network later this afternoon and double check that it will connect with the wireless to a different network. Is there a way to manually set the DHCP server address that Windows XP looks for, possibly? Until then,

I see two perfectly good connections to a router somewhere. However, I also see ICS enabled, which you probably don't want.

Disabling Internet Connection Sharing
