Pulling my hair out! RealTek RTL8139 "limited connection". Please Help!
Hello all,
Im having an absolute nightmare with this one! Was wondering if you guys could help. If i give you a run-down of what i've done so far, hopefully it should give you a better picture. I upgraded my broadband to 8meg today (line verified as live). I had to go out and buy an ethernet card as my pc did not originally come with one. Ive been through the whole installation and had problems. I keep getting "limited or no connection". My ethernet router is "Realtek RTL8139 Family PCI Fast Ethernet" I called my ISP and trouble shooted with them - they could'nt sort it so presumably, the routers A.O.K. I then googled for further info. And found and carried the following out. 1. Downloaded Microsoft patch (KB884020) - was info'd possible SP2 bug 2. Installed the following registry fix: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\IPSec] "AssumeUDPEncapsulationContextOnSendRule"=dword:00000002 3. Rebooted etc.. -----Still not working at this point. 4. Checked cabling, set network card to 10mbps, disabled and re-enabled, re-booted, ensured "automatically detect TCP/IP settings" enabled etc......still no connection 5. Downloaded WinsockXPFix.exe to fix TCP/IP probs - still not working. Ive swapped over cables and everything but im banging my head against the wall here lol! I would be ever so grateful if anyone could help with this. My 1meg broadband works fine. I just cannot seem to connect with this new ethernet card. Eternally gratefull in advance. The Mole. |
