internet tunnel - is it possible?

Hi all,

I have a problem with my network. Browsing the web, reading emails and all that stuff works great, but due to the nature of the setup I can't do anything which requires port forwarding.

I live in university halls of residence and pay full price for an internet connection that doesnt give me a unique WAN ip address. The connection is served through a MAN (Metropolitan Area Network) which services all connections in the halls. This connection is then split using a standard router with mac address cloning and distributes the connection wirelessly to me and my flatmates.

Because the router doesnt get it's own public IP address this means port forwarding will essentialy be useless unless I can get the network managers to give me a few ports (aint gonna happen). So I have started looking into alternative ways of getting a full connection.

Luckily I have access to a linux dedicated root server with plenty of redundant bandwidth. I was therefore wondering if it is possible to set up this server as some sort of gateway and have it service all my connections on all ports. And how would I get my PC to use such a service?

I understand this may not be possible, but I was hoping someone more experienced could suggest something.
