Net connection but can't ping
Hey I'm having this odd problem... I can connect to the internet via browsers (both IE and firefox) and view web pages just fine. But when I try to run certain games, I can't connect to the master servers. This problem seems to come and go throughout the day, bloody annoying though.
Also, as an experiment, I tried to ping several websites (google.com, meebo.com, etc) and to my surprise, I couldn't not ping these sites, despite that I could view them in my browser. The message I received was 'Request Timed Out." Any ideas? I'm on a university connection, running WinXP, and my roommate can do all these things that I can not, and his computer is on the same net and in the same room... |

Re: Net connection but can't ping
The only thing that springs to mind is some sort of firewall...

Re: Net connection but can't ping
The fact that you're running through a college network opens the door to all sorts of possibilities. You don't have control of all the firewall and/or filtering capability that probably exists on the network.
