Maybe I need to go to a windows forum but I thought Id try here first.
First some background: For months now Ive trying to setup a D-Link 624s router so I could have a wireless setup on a second computer in my house. I have Verizon DSL and am using a Westell 6100 (C90-610015-06) modem. Neither Verizon or DSL has been able to help me. They can get it to work for a few days and then it just slows down to where you cant even change pages. I never even got to try the wireless setup on the other PC. I even sent it back to D-Link and got a new one under the warranty & got the same results with the new one. All this messin around with the setups on the modem and the router ( I think is causing my problem) Every so often my PC wont even start up past the intial Windows XP Pro startup screen. So to get it back up and running I have to go into safe mode. Once there I check the Device Mgr and under Network Adapters there are several new items listed that were not there when everything was AOK. To fix the problem I have to disable every item under Network Adapters and restart the PC in normal mode. (It boots up like everything is OK) Then I go back into Network Adapters and I find the find Items 2 - 4 have reactivated themselves. So I go into each of the other items and "enable" them one by one. As I do this they never really enable instead they just dissapear. Also as a note I tryed to unistall them but it wont let me do that (says they are needed to start the PC) Below Ive llisted an exact copy of all the items shown including the new ones. Items 2-4 are the ones that always remain. Network Adapters: Direct Parallel 1394 Net Adapter 1394 Net Adapter #2 Realtek TRL8169/8110 Family gigabit-ethernet NIC Realtek TRL8169/8110 Family gigabit-ethernet NIC-Packet Scheduler Miniport Wan Miniport (IP) Wan Miniport (IP) - Packet Scheduler Miniport Wan Miniport (L2TP) Wan Miniport (PPPOE) Wan Miniport (PPTP) After I go through this proceedure everything is ok for a few days and then it starts all over again. Anybody got any ideas whats goin on here. Or how to fix it permanently. |

Re: Network Adapters (DEVICE MGR)keeps messin up
Don't disable the items, uninstall EVERYTHING under Network Controllers and reboot. If necessary, install the proper drivers for the equipment, see if that lasts longer.
