First of I will try to explain what I am trying to do so that you can tell me if I'm doing it all wrong.
I'm trying to set up a server for the sole purpose of creating User Accounts on a network of 10 computers + 1 server. (Btw I have tried all of this a few times and every time I got errors with the DNS when trying to connect, it either told me there was a problem with the DNS or my user and pass was incorrect, which is wasn't) Installed Longhorn, everything ok Configure TCP/IP v4 for static IP Install DNS gives error saying that I need to select on on-line source to give out addresses. But it still installs Install active directory Add all computers and a test user Connected computers know there is a server but all logon attempts fail because of DNS error. I know this is the sort of computing problem you really have to be there to fix but if anything comes to your mind just blurt it out and ill give it a try, I ll be working on it all tomorrow so I hope to hear for someone Thanks |

Re: DNS giving me a head ache 'Longhorn'
Did you change the Preferred DNS server IP address in your Local Area Connection to the LAN IP of the DNS server?
For example, if your DNS server is 10.20.30.2, do the computers in the network have 10.20.30.2 set as the Preferred DNS server IP? Have you joined the computers to the domain? What operating system do the computers have? Last edited by verdrm : 04-11-2007 at 09:57 PM. |
