Hello to all! Ok I am trying to share a printer that is installed on a Win2k machine with an XP machine over a wireless network for one of my clients. The workgroup names match and I have configured the firewall on the 2KPro machine to allow the ip address of the XP machine. When I run the wizard to add printer on the XP machine, I click the Browse button and the 2KPro machine is shown but the printer is not. The printer is shared on the 2KPro machine and is installed correctly. I can print locally from the Win2KPro Machine. The 2KPro Machine has SP4 installed and all the latest patches. The XP machine is XPProSP2. I can ping the 2KPro machine from the XP machine. I have rebooted both and the printer still does not show up when I Browse for it when running the add printer wizard just the computer and you can't expand it to show the printer it is just not there but it is shared. Any Ideas?

Re: XP to Win2k printing problem
Can you see any other shared resources on the 2K machine? Perhaps you still have a firewall issue?

Re: XP to Win2k printing problem
Thanks for replying Johnwill. I tried to share a folder and could not see it on the xp machine. I turned the firewall off in the trusted zone (the network) on the Win2K machine and I still could not see the shared printer. Like I said when I run the add printer wizard I can see the computer but not the printer. Maybe a driver problem but if it was you would think that I could not print locally on the Win2K machine. The printer is an old Deskjet 850C.

Re: XP to Win2k printing problem
It sounds like something is amiss on the 2k machine. What happens if you double click the computer name of the 2K machine when browsing from the XP machine?

Re: XP to Win2k printing problem
When I double click on the 2K machine it wants a user name and password. The client does not have a password protected user account. And he nor I have a clue what the admin password is. It gives me the option to log in as admin but the client does not know that password. That is the trouble coming in after someone else's work. I hope it doesn't take reinstalling windows in order to get it working.

Re: XP to Win2k printing problem
OK, now we're making real progress.
Create a user account on the 2K machine with the same name/password as is used to logon to the XP machine. You don't have to use the account, it just has to have rights to access the shares on the 2K machine. If you don't have a password on the XP machine, I suggest creating one. No passwords frequently confuses networking access. You can set the XP machine up to autologin to your account if you don't want to type the password each time.

Re: XP to Win2k printing problem
Ok I will try it. I have seen you answer other posts with that same solution. The one thing that I don't understand is why I didn't have to do that with my home network. I have two xp pro machines and they have different user accounts and they share resources just fine. Is because my client is using different oses?

Re: XP to Win2k printing problem
It depends on what options are set for the various machines. 2K is somewhat picky about who it talks to.
