installing small home network
hi everyone
actually, i have two computers and want to connect them together, i have two cat5 cables and one moden for internet, so whats the best way to share internet and files for both of pc's, i mean i know there are hub, router, switch, but which is the best way to connect them? and all my purpose for networking is to share internet, and some files. thanx for any respond.

Your best bet would be to get a router. Most consumer routers have a 4 port switch built in. the ports of the router are generally named WAN and LAN. The WAN port will go to your broadband modem and the LAN ports will go to each computer.

A hub will not work unless your ISP supplies you with multiple IP address. Normally an ISP will give you a single IP and if you need more, they usually charge you for additional ones. A router will let you share the single public IP through NAT (Network Address Translation). Thus will let you connect multiple computers through a single IP.
