Can't attach files to webmail
There is a small lan with 4 computers. In the last 2 weeks when we send an email through yahoo, hotmail or gmail (any webmails I think) we can't attach bigger files to them from any of the computers. Everything is working fine, I can send and receive emails, I can even attach a small file like a 1kb text file generated just for testing purposes, but when I want to attach any bigger (e.g. a 20kb picture) the webmail system comes back with an error message (gmail says it cant attach the file, yahoo says similar, hotmail just times out)
They all starts to upload the file and then comes back with error. I tried Internet Explorer 7 and also Firefox. Both has the problem. I also thought the router maybe blocks the files somehow, but since nobody touched it in the last year it should be fine. However I restarted it to make sure. My suspect is the installed Norton Internet security (3 computers have the 2007 version, one of them has the 2006). I tried to switch off then later uninstall one of them to see is there anything changed but nothing. Then I thought maybe one of the computers on the network blocks the whole stuff so I unplugged all of the computers from the network except one but that one didn't work. I've done this process with an other computer but it didn't work either. I have now no idea what else could be so I need some fresh thought. Any ideas? |

Re: Can't attach files to webmail
yeah, it was the router. The company where this happened had a similar router (a few month earlier version of the same thing). I hooked it up and everything worked fine with that. I changed back to the original one and the problem occured again. Even after a factory default reset. So finally the company bosses said it is cheaper an easier to get a new router than messing around with the old one and slinged that out.
The new one is working happily ever after, the problem never occured again. :) To be honest I still don't know what was the cause of the problem really. Power surge, hardware faliure or something like that, but it was definetely in the router. |
