ADSL Cable Problems
Hi all,
I have just purchased a DLink DSL-G624T Wireless router and the wireless adapter. I want to conect a Laptop (Main net connection) and a Desktop pc so i can access the internet from my games machine upstairs. After setting up the router by following the steps on the cd it says to insert the ADSL cable from the phone line into the router, once i have done this it proceeds to check the internet setting and either times out or says i have an error with my PPPUsername. Now i know the username and password is fine and i can even connect to the wireless router from the desktop pc but i wont access the internet unless the adsl cable is plugged into the old modem. The laptop says it is on a Local Area Connection already which if this is turned off i cant connect to the internet on the old modem anyway. Ive been trying to sort if for a few hours now and just run out of ideas, do i keep the adsl cable in the modem or router? If its in the router i can connect from PC2 but cannot log onto internet, whereas if i leave in old voyager modem i can connect to internet but not to wireless network. Could it be that there is an existing network on the pc? Please help! Many thanks Lee |

Re: ADSL Cable Problems
The phone cable needs to be plugged into the ADSL modem. The ethernet cable coming out of the modem goes into the Wan plug on the router.
If this still does not work, you may have a modem/router. If this is the case, you have to contact the ISP and have them walk you through how to put it in bridged mode, so your wireless router will work.

Re: ADSL Cable Problems
Ive now had to buy another wireless usb stick and connect from both computers to the router which is standing alone, not attatched to any PC (just connected to the modem).
I now have a wireless network up and working and the internet is accesible from the laptop, but i can access the internet from uptairs? Do i need the ISP software on both computers or is it just that sharing is not enabled maybe? |
