have internet connection but can't surf net at all(moved from IE forum)
Recently, my laptop is unable to connect to internet eventhough there is no problem with the Netgear wireless router and the Westell verizon DSL modem. In the connection properties, there is signal sent but the signal receiving is horrible. Even when I tried to plug the ethernet cable directly to the laptop , it still doesnt work. Im using window XP Media Center, SP2. When I tried to cmd/ipconfig, I didnt see the IP address; it has a question mark. I tried unplug and reset the routers and modem but the problem doesnt not seem to go away. I thought the winsock is corrupted so i followed the guide in microsoft. website to recover the winsock but it still doesnt work.
I would appreciate for any help. thanks P.S: I tried plug in my laptop in my uncle's house , it worked. weird huh. |

If you are using wireless, the encryption is to make sure only the people you want to use your network are using it.
Sounds like you are using an ethernet cable, so this does not apply. Let's move this over to the networking section. I think they will be able to help you with this.

What is your computer's ip? Start>Run and then type ipconfig and report the two ips back please. We want to see if the router and the computer are on the same subnet. Thanks, JB

Thank you for yours replies. my problem was because my np obtained the router ip instead of the dsl modem. Hence, I have to reset the modem and edit my router configuration in order for the nb to received signal from the router.
thanks for your help. |
