Wired Network, Shared Connection Problem
Greetings all on this forum!!
,I set up a wired network: Laptop XP pro, w/ wireless connected to desktop Win NT Pro by ethernet through router/hub thing On the laptop(XPpro) I can map the desktop(NTpro) drives and share files that way, but I cannot map my laptop drives in the NT system. Is that possible? I would like to share the wireless connection on the laptop... i.e. surf the web on the desktop through the laptop's wireless connection. I cannot get that to work. When I choose the share option on my wireless connection, the computers can no longer see eachother. I used the second option when setting up the network wizard(..res gateway...). I would also like to try and get rid of the router/hub and just use a crossover cable. Will that work? Oh... and one funny thing is that the connection only seems to work when the NT system says "connected", and the XP laptop ways "limited or no connectivity". I had the same issue when connecting to a different XP desktop at school. Thanks in advance for and help or advice! ~doduff Last edited by doduff; 03-06-2007 at 08:00 PM. |

When you configure ICS on the laptop, and connect the NT machine, are you configuring NT for automatic IP addresses? On each of the machines, do this:
Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt: Type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here.

got it working:
solution: 1. turn off antivirus firewall(leave windows firewall on) or adjust its settings somehow to allow remote connections and internet sharing etc... 2. renew ip's "ipconfig /renew" and it all works: rermote desktop, internet sharing, file transfer,.. etc... thanks! doduff |
