- hey guys how do you allow and use telnet securely in a LAN?

If you want to have secure telnet sessions, the common solution is to use SSH. Utilities like OpenSSH allow you to adopt SSH fairly easily.

- im new to telneting...is telnet protocol obsolete.
- can i use openssh on a local area network (for troubleshooting)

SSH is encrypted. Telnet sends everything in clear text.

I only use telnet when needed. Like configuring switches, routers, etc.

- i never use telnet before, so is it advisable to enable and use telnet service in a LAN only.
