Can't get rid of this "no domain server" message
I networked two computers, an xp and a 98se, thru a switch to a qwest broadband modem. I can't get the computers to see each other and I've tried too long to fix it. They can both access the internet and that's really all that matters to me. : ) My latest problem is that every time I turn on the 98 I get a "microsoft networking" message saying "no domain server was available to validate your password." I googled it and found a few suggestions and tried them but the message keeps on popping up. I cleared the password. I used tweakui to log on automatically. I searched for *.pwl and deleted them. Nothing has worked. Thank you for your help.

You need to reconfigure the networking for a workgroup, not a domain.

Control Panel, Networks, Properties of "Client for Microsoft Networks", and uncheck "Logon to Windows NT domain"

Thanks, johnwill, thanks to you I no longer have to click on 'OK' or "esc" to get rid of the message. The message still pops up though. But then the computer thinks about it and then the message disappears and the computer completes the startup. I can live with that. : ) It is interesting to me that even tho computers are so powerful, there are always little things that can't be completely remedied, but I'm happy that I don't have to click on anything anymore to get the computer started.

Hmm... I don't know why that would happen...
