networking with vista
My xp notebook was networked to my xp desktop. I had to replace the desktop and the new on came with vista. I wasn't able to get them networking so I call dell support and was told they can't work together. Seems hard to believe, any truth to that?

basically the problem is I can't get the two pc's networking. If I go to start-network-network sharing on the desktop (vista) I see the PC,network name, and internet logo connected with a line but don't , and can't get it to see the laptop (XP).

Can you ping the machines from the opposite machine? That's the first step here.
