Getting rid of a second wireless router signal (linksys)
Hi guys,
Basically story is: I set up my wireless router (linksys HR200 Wireless G router) a while back on an open network, and gave it an SSID of linksys, but now i decided to set up a new secure one with security switched on called Earls_house_wireless (SSID).Only trouble is, it still sends out the open linksys signal on channel 11 in addition to the new Earls_house_wireless signal on channel 6, which means anyone can still access the linksys signal, rendering the secure one pointless, so id like to delete the linksys signal. Any ideas? A few things ive done: Reset the router (held reset for 30 seconds) reset router via power (pulling plug for 10 seconds) Both were advised by linksys live chat support, but they turnt out useless, kept telling me dumb advice like, try connecting to linksys, after i repeatedly told them I can and HAVE. Cheers. |

Why not delete the first one and keep the secure one? Or modify the linksys so it's secure as well? I guess i'm missing the point.

How do i delete the first one though, thats the problem you see, Ive reset the router, and even on the settings there is no sign of this linksys wireless network, unless its my neighbours, but i highly doubt that, because it was my setup from before.

It might be a neighbors router??
Turn your router off and see if you still the other Linksys SSID that is open on channel 6. Maybe you have been on your neighbors WAP all this time?? JamesO |

Well I turnt the router off, ours disappeared and it was still there, so i gather its someone elses, dunno why i didnt think of turnin it off. Anyway thanks guys, thread can be closed.
Thinking about it as well i should of realised because one signal was weaker, if they were coming from the same place, they would of been same strength. |
