[SOLVED] I plugged in my new network but my old W98 computer doesn't see it.
I plugged the XP computer and the W98se computer into the switch. I plugged the switch into the Qwest broadband modem. I turned everything on. My XP computer surfs the net like nothing changed (and THAT'S a relief - the wife won't get upset : ), but the W98 computer keeps trying to use the dial up modem. How do I tell the W98 computer to use the Qwest modem?

I put Thunderbird on the 98se and did the configuration thing and it downloads new email (from gmail) but it won't send out email. Glitches - always the glitches! Still, it's so nice to have two computers online in our house.
In the last three days I've installed a RAM card, I've installed a PCI ethernet jack, I've connected two computers to the internet via a 5 port switch, and I've configured an old 1998 Windows 98 computer to handle it, thanks to the great advice I've gotten here at techsupportforum. I feel like a computer mofo, thanks to you tech peoples being so nice to us noobs. : ) Now, if I could only figure out how to upload my own dark beer drinking smiley to this website! |
