Cannot fileshare with Vista and XP (64) - HELP
Here is my situation:
I have a desktop running XP (64-bit) and a new laptop running Vista (Home Premium). I have both of them connected to a wired router, and I run ethernet cables from that to both units. They can both browse the internet just fine, but I cannot - for the love of god - get them to see each other in my network places. I have prior experience networking two XP computers together, but its just not working out right now with both operating systems. My Vista laptop can view all computers on the "WORKGROUP" network and is set for filesharing My XP desktop can not view any computers (it is set up for the "WORKGROUP" network also). From this I have come to the conclusion that it is in fact my desktop that is the problem here. Sadly, it is the OS that I have the most experience with, and I have tried almost everything, but no matter what workgroup I try or how many different network connections I configure I cannot get the damn desktop to see ANY computers on the WORKGROUP network. Anyone have any ideas? Also, for my router, it is plugged into my dorm room wall, and 2 ethernet cables go from the back of it to each computer. I didnt have to do any IP configurations or anything like that |
