Desktop Icons not working

Suddenly, the desktop icons that access the internet do not connect. I can get where I want to go through the Internet Explorer Browser but that is very inconvenient. I have a fairly new Sonly Vaio laptop. Thank you.

My System

Hello and welcome to TSF.

Just so I'm clear about this, the desktop icon - the shortcut to Internet Explorer with the blue "e" - does not launch Internet Explorer? Do you get an error message? Or is it not even on the desktop? Do you use another web browser like Firefox or Opera?

When you say you go through the "Internet Explorer Browser", do you click it in your Start Menu, the Quick Launch bar (mini-icons you may or may not have beside the Start button), double-click in a window, or run it via the Run feature?

I can use the big e on the desktop. It gets me into the internet. The icons that don't work are the shortcut icons I have put on the desktop. The ones that connect to the internet do nothing. They do not open, even if I right click. For example, if I want to get into Google, I have to first go through Internet Explorer. My Google shortcut icon on the desktop doesn't work. I hope this is not too confusing. Thank you for your help.

Just delete the offending icons and then re-instate them.

Cheers,

I tried that and it didn't work. The only icons that don't work are the ones that connect to the internet. The only way I could open this link was to copy and paste onto the browser. What a pain.

well, the point is we put icons on the desktop for our convenience. It takes several more clicks (often a copy and paste to a browser) to bring up the link I want to get into in the internet.
