How to share PC & MAC files across ethernet cable?

I need to transfer a 20 GB file from my MAC to my PC. With both NTSC and FAT32 formatted drives you cannot transfer this file. It's too big. I have the software "Dave" but it doesn't work. I heard that Windows XP has the built in capability to transfer files across an ethernet cable.

You are not storing a single 20gig file on FAT32, since the maximum file size for FAT32 is 4gigs.

Correct. Therefore I can't copy it to an external drive and then onto my PC. For clarity the 20 GB file is on my MAC computer.

A network drive might do the trick??

MAC is not really a true FAT32 format from my understanding?

I know the Buffalo LinkStation should support both a MAC and PC environment and the Ximeta NetDisk can support MAC, PC and Linux as they do not use a standard TCP/IP, the Ximeta also supports USB.

As I recall, Radio Shack sells the Ximeta NetDisk housing for around $50 if you can find it. Then you can get your own drive to put in the case. You will need to format the drive from the MAC first before you do anything else.

Again, there is something slightly different with the MAC formatting and it is not full FAT32, but it is close, so it may not have the limitations that you find with a die hard FAT32 format??

Someone just told me about a software called MacDrive 6 that allows a PC to actually read a MAC formatted exterenal drive.
