I have 2 windows 2000pro computers networked. When I boot computer "b" up after computer "a", Windows advises me that "An error occurred while reconnecting e: to \foldername\my documents. The connection has not been restored." There is another, earlier advisory box behind that one that windows was trying to restore the connection.
Thereafter, when I check for "Computers Near Me" on Computer A, it will show Computer "B" but not itself, "A". And when I have another computer networked "C", it too disappears from Computer A's Computers Near me window. Computer A also does not show up in Computer b's Computers near me window. But, the "A" folders and drives that I have mapped on Computer B do show up and are accessible. When I boot ComputerB first, this problem does not occur. The first time this occurred, I ran the Network and Dial-up Connections link in My Network Places on Computer A, and used the set up network wizard again on that computer. When I rebooted, the Windows 2000 tutorial came on as if it was a fresh install of windows, and all (I think) of my programs are in a state as if freshly installed, including windows office xp programs, outlook, browsers, media players, etc. I ran virus scans and malware scans on both computers. There were some items on computerB, that were removed, but the same problem with the networking error is still happening. Just as a note, I had these 2 computers networked for a long time, with different installations of Windows2000pro on each, with no problems. Then the hard drive for computerA failed, and I installed windows2000pro on a new hard drive, from the same disk as is installed on computerB. I ran into trouble with my firefox browser on ComputerA initially, it would restore sessions, but double up the tabs. one day, text that I inputted into the search bar was reversed. I shut down, started a fresh session, and that seemed ok. Then, not long after, the above problem. |

it seems to be resolved. I may have done something when I added sharing to a folder, that maybe somehow it didn't have anymore, or perhaps doing an avast bootscan did it. Found 2 items that should not have done much, but who knows? adware_gen and RAS. Plus dssagent, which is adware, the adware_gen was in it. I dunno...but no more error message
