Wireless network with pppoe
Here is the setup. I have a wireless internet ISP. I access the wireless tower with my wireless card and then use PPPOE to connect and use the internet.
The signal is not perfect and I get about a 20 signal strenght from my laptop. The laptop connects without a problem, and all is fine. Laptop using a pcmcia D-Link G650 card. The issue is, I want to use a spare pc to connect to this wireless internet, and then share it from there. But it seems like only the laptop connects to the wireless tower. The spare PC uses a D-Link airplus G DWL-g510 card connected to a 4db antenna. I have tried another PC with windows 2003 server, and another SMC wireless card with no luck. The pc can see the wireless connection, but it simply doesnt want to connect. The wireless tower does not have any encryption, but like I said, the signal is only about 20 in Netstumbler. But this all works using my laptop and normal PCMCIA card without an antenna. There is no logical reason that I can see why a PCMCIA card on a laptop will connect to a wireless signal, but my pc's with a stronger signal won't. Any ideas welcome.

what software do you use to control the wireless connection on your desktops? Is it just a normal windows XP control panel, or the manufacturer's software.
Because if its custom software it could be set to the wrong wireless channel. I think 6 is default.

Nah, I have tried the windows XP and the manufacturers software. The wireless tower is using channel 2.
I was able to connect to the tower using the PC yesterday, but it only lasted for a few minutes. But, the laptop still connects perfectly with a lower signal in Netstumbler. Baffled!!!
