Remote Desktop with Netgear DG834G

I have Windows XP Pro and want to use a Remote Desktop connection between my Girlfriends PC and mine. Her laptop also uses XP Pro.
I have a static IP from my ISP and am using a Netgear DG834G Wireless Router.
I have changed my system settings under the remote tab to allow remote connections but am still not able to RDC.
I keep getting the message:

"The client could not connect to the remote computer.
Remote connections might not be enabled or the computer might be too busy to accept new connections.
It is also possible that network problems are preventing your connection."

Any help would be appreciated.

Do you want to remote into your computer from her's? and are you trying to remote over the internet or are both computers on the same network?

On your router make sure you foward port 3389 to the IP of your computer. When you open Remote Desktop Connection, type the public IP to your computer followed by :3389

Note 3389 is the default listening port for remote desktop connection. It is usually wise to change this because everyone knows that this is default and is a security weak link. All a person needs is you public IP and they can remote into your computer.

Thanks for the help, although how would I go about changing the port number?

Thanks again.
