i recently got a netgear dg834g and i got it all hooked up. updated the firmware and set everything to be obtained automatically then called my internet provider and registered the mac address with the company and still couldn't pull up the ip which leaves me with no internet on that modem. if you have any knowledge on this topic please let me know. thanks

My top suspect would be the ISP didn't registry the MAC or did so incorrectly.

Idea

I don't have a solution as such, but I offer a couple of thoughts incase they help.
First the way you describe it is as though you were previously connecting via another modem or something ? if you were then the system may still be trying to connect via that modem instead of this one.
And secondly is there by chance a firewall blocking it ? about all i can think of ATM.
