Network connection problem

-hey guys i have 2 pc connected via a crossover cable and they have these configurations.

Quote:

pc1 XP

workgroup=mshome
ipaddress=192.168.1.2
netmask=255.255.255.0
file sharing enabled
firewall exception filesharing also enabled
netbios set to default
icmp encoming enabled

pc2 win03

workgroup=mshome
ipaddress=192.168.1.3
netmask=255.255.255.0
file sharing enabled
icmp encoming enabled
netbios set to default

-now my problem is that they cant ping each other both can ping their loopback address and ipaddresses but cant ping each other. the crossover cable is also in good condition.

Failure to ping is almost always a firewall configuration issue. Disable ALL firewalls until you get PING working.

does win03 has a firewall built in on it?

Win03? Are you talking about Server 2003 or what?

-yes the server....i also forgot to mention the both pc1 and 2 cant see each other in my network places...

Well, to ping between the two XP-Home machines, the server doesn't have any part in the transaction. The firewalls in question have to be on the XP-Home computers.

Also, you do know that XP-Home can't logon to a domain, right?

-XP home edition cant login to a domain? ididnt know actually is that a bug problem for XP Home?

Nope, XP-Home doesn't have the capability to logon to a domain. You can still use workgroup computing to the server, but you can't create a domain and use those machines.
