Signal strength "very low" is the clue. Better antennas, or move closer. Also, look for sources of interference.

John thank you for your reply.

Unfortunately i am unable to move the desktop closer to the router as one is upstair and the other downstairs. Can i get a better antennas? What would you recommend?

Would it make a different if i actually use the software to the card rather than using the window wireless wizard? if so how do i stop the windows one working?

Cheers Lisa

You can go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services. Scroll down to the WZC service and select Properties. Disable it's startup, and Stop the service. Then you can use the card software.

I have no idea if this will help your case, because you appear to need better antennas. www.hawkingtech.com has a selection of hi-gain antennas that I've used in the past. D-Link and Linksys also have antennas.
