IP and the such

I just bought a new laptop with Windows XP Media Center and and AMD Turion 64 x2. I have a wireless network already set up in my home, but when I try to connect to the network, it cannot get an IP. The only way it will get and IP is if I manually enter it. Every possible setting is on "Auto-Configure" or something similar, but nothing is getting automatically configured. When I do "ipconfig" the IP shows up as 0.0.0.0 and so does the Subnet Mask. Is there something wrong here?

Check the configuration on the router. Make sure DHCP is enabled.

You can also try this stack reset to see if that will fix the DHCP client.

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2.

For these commands, Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset reset.log
