setup multi-cpu to cable

I'm trying to connect two computers to a repeater then a cros over to a cable box. when the cable box is hooked up to the home cpu directly it works fine. why will it not acuire and ip address when i add a repeater in the line. cpu---to---repeater---to---cable box? (next i want to add another cpu to the repeater and gain dns resalution.....)

You will probably need to get a router since your ISP only has issued you a single IP address. Or you could also pay for another IP address from your ISP.

I agree with crazijoe, I don't think that a repeater the right tool for the problem that you have. I would go with the router - a second IP can often double your ISP fees.
