I just purchased the HP dv6120us notebook PC. Attempts to set up WLAN connectivity with my Netgear router have failed. Although I see my network listed as available when I attempt to connect. I have provided the SSID/key, so that is not the issue. The HP Activation wizard does not even list Netgear as an option when selecting a router brand, and the Windows wizard can't seem to accomplish the set up either.
Has anyone else had compatibility issues between HP and Netgear? (Sorry about not listing the specific Netgear router model. I'm away from home right now; will update this message when I get back.) Any input will be greatly appreciated. netnut55

Turn off encryption to get the network working initially. Also, don't use MAC filtering, SSID hiding, etc. Those only serve to make your network harder for you to use. When you get the connection working, enable encryption WPA/WPA2 is best, but WEP if the others are not available on both ends.

Thanks for your reply, johnwill. I'm still at work, but I have some additional information to include. The Netgear Router is a WGR614 (v4); the wireless card in the box is Intel® PRO/Wireless 3945ABG. Hubby is home & is going to try to contact HP support online so they can run some remote diagnostics. If that doesn't resolve the problem -- & I'm guessin' it may not -- I'll try your suggestions as soon as I get home. Thanks for the suggestions & I'll post the outcome ASAP. It's a sweet machine & I got a good price on it -- sure hope I don't have to put out $$$ for a new router. netnut55

Make sure you get the latest drivers for that Intel card, they're infamous for issues with older drivers. Also, go to the laptop maker for the drivers, don't try to use the Intel generic ones.
