intermittant browser error on 1 pc

Hi,
I have a d-link wireless adsl router which is hardwired to my desktop pc and wirelessly connected to my laptop. The network works fine and browsing on both computers is as fast as i would expect, however if i leave the desktop running for a while the browser will not connect to any sites. I use Utorrent and that still sends and recieves fine, also i can browse the internet on the laptop no problem.
Restarting the pc or unplugging/reconnecting the router solves the problem but it isnt the best solution
I have win xp sp2 with updates current to today, firewall is configured to allow internet access for all browser and turning the firewall off makes no difference.

I am mistified so if anyone can help i would be most grateful

I'd suspect spyware/malware, Utorrent is a big clue.
