We have 3 laptops (2 wireless) 3rd is used as the Host(Ethernet)
1 desktop is installed in my sons room (No Telephone Socket) but he has wireless connection through linksys wireless g-Network USb adapter (model WUSB54GS). Our broad band router is linksys wireless g- ADSL gateway (Model WAG54GS) we have 2 printers, which we can access through being shared, but the Host laptop needs to be on to do this. Now to be honest the host laptop is barely used as it is full of problems and takes a good 30 mins to load into windows (But Thats another story) Is it possible to share the broadband, printers, etc without a host and no wires if so what do i need? Thanks for any help in advance ladydi..... |

yes you can.
- what you need is two print servers with the specific connections needed for your printers. ** those need to be connected then to the router via an rj45 cable** ~there might be wireless print servers but to my knowledge there arent~ then you can get a usb wireless adapter for the host computer ``reinstall winxp or win2k on there to make it usefull again´´ my mom loves my old laptop in the kitchen wich is a great resource to cooking or fast inernet access from the living room. i hope that answered some questions. truely u only need the print servers to share the printers and that goes directly over hardwire over the router.

One thing to consider. You need to be able to connect to the router with a cable in order to configure things, and also for troubleshooting.

well u gota make sure the connection to the broadband is plugged into the router ... then u need to make sure that the dhcp service for distributing ips over the network is enabled in the router, if that is disabled, there wont be any connection unless u do it manually.

Ok Sorry i am dumb, i unplugged the host from the router and it does work, sorry sorry, i am eating humble pie.
so basically i need a printserver ( with correct cables for my printers) connect this to my Router and a wireless adapter for the 3rd laptop. and the ethernet cable that was connected is used for configuring the router. Is this Right# |

FWIW, unless there's a real good reason to run wireless, you'll have far fewer issues with wired connections, not to mention vastly better file sharing performance. The only thing wireless at my place is my laptop, and I have a wireless card in a system so I can answer questions about wireless configurations.
