Help required on using proxy

Does anyone know how to connect to an external proxy while behind a LAN. I connect to my local proxy to connect to internet, i want to connect to some other proxy located somewhere else to access the web. Plz help.

I have tried to change the gateway and the dns server to the internet proxy, but it aint working. the only difference i am gettin is that by doing this i am getting destination host unreachable on a ping request ,perviously the request timed out. Is there a software which could first connect to my local proxy and then to other proxies using the internet available at the first proxy.?

Well i have figured out that we can use protoport proxy chain for this purpose. any other software?
