Re: my computer disconnects router connection

I have a problem with my computer, i have a netgear dg834v2, and have two computers hooked up to it, but when i connect my computer the internet drops immedieatly, so i cant connect to the internet through my £50 wired router

At first i thought that i had a trojan, and it was trying to access the internet so my isp disconnected it. But after a hard drive format and a clean install i still have the same problem.

It all started after i got my computer back from repair they changed the power supply which had broke.

Any suggestions much appreciated

First off, one each computer, let's see this:

For 98 or ME, Start, Run, COMMAND to open a DOS window:
--- or ---
For 2K or XP, Start, Run, CMD to open a DOS window:

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

What is the Speedtouch connection? Is that your Internet connection? What's connected to the router?

I am connected to the internet using the speedtouch modem at the moment because, i cannot use my router otherwise i wouldn't be able to post on these forums.

Well, I'd like you to generate the IPCONFIG results without the modem connected, then connect up and send us the results. Do that for both machines connected to the router at the same time.

Well, that looks like you have a connection to the router. If you type 192.168.0.1 in the address bar of IE, can you access the router's setup pages? If so, check the WAN configuration, I suspect you need to perhaps enter the name/password for the BT Internet service and set up PPPoE as your protocol.

The problem seems to be when i connect my computer to the network, the other computers can browse the web fine, but when i connect and try and browse the web, it instantly disconnects. I am connected to the router, just not the internet

Are you saying the whole network goes down when you connect your computer? Or are you just having an issue with the one computer?

Only the internet connection as it is a broadband router....

Sorry, yes if my computer is connected then all the computers are affected, but when mines not connected to the network the others computers can browse the internet fine

That's very odd. Could your machine be streaming? Check the activity lights on the router when you connect your machine. Do you see constant activity on the port you're connected through?
