Cisco CCNA lab equipment.
I wanted to study for the cisco CCNA on my own, but whilst reading through some of the material, I realized that some of the lab exercises require you to log into a cisco router. Anyone know what would be the best model of Cisco router to purchase to study for the exam. In addition; I'm assuming that some of the labs would most likely require a Cisco switch. If so, what model of Cisco switch would be best for the exam.
Although I have heard of simulators that emulate the router/switch environments, I really want to be able to get a hold of the routers/switches so I can physically set them up. But if you know of some really good simulators, I wouldn't mind knowing about them either. Are there any other equipment required for the CCNA? Thanks. |

Contact your local Cisco Networking Academy and see what one of the instructors recommends. They'll be more than happy to give recommendations as to what works best to study on.
You may want to consider taking courses instead of self-studying for the CCNA as the requirements to pass the exams are fairly high (and can be difficult). The books, while comprehensive, are not necessarily complete and you will undoubtedly miss things you would not have in an instructor-led course. Plus as an added bonus instructor-led courses will have you working on actual lab equipment. |

When I went to a CCNA training class, We used 2600 series router and Catalyst 2650 switches.
This was about 4 years ago. As you can see I don't have my CCNA cert. This is because I don't work on the equipment at my job and plus you have to renew it every 3 years. Last edited by crazijoe; 10-13-2006 at 11:04 AM. |
