Linksys Router not saving the settings
For some reason at home, my router will not seem to want to save the settings anymore. I cannot seem to port forward properly anymore since the settings always seem to reset after about an half an hour or so. Also when the router does reset, I see very strange characters on my screen (when I access the router configuaration page). Normally a refresh on the page would bring the page back to it's default settings and I would have to set the router back up again.
Also, it has only been a week since this has happened. I left for my college dorm one weekend, and the next weekend I come home to find out that the router screwed up after I plugged my computer in. Is my router completely unsalvageable, or is there a way to fix it. If there is no way to fix it, let me know soon so I can replace it with the warranty. Thanks. |

The router is running too hot.
Google: "linksys heat issues" This is fairly common.

Thanks Bill, I'll look into that.
I don't know how effective it would be, but would putting a direct house fan on the router solve the problem? Last edited by HelpMeOut; 09-06-2006 at 01:27 AM. |

I do not think you have to go that far.
The cooling is by convection -- cool air from the bottom flows over the components and out the top. So: . Do not put it on its side . Do not stack it unless absolutely necessary. If stacked, make it the bottom. . Simple measures can make a big difference. I slip empty 35mm film canisters over the feet. But see: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum...s.cfm?t=524626 http://www.users.on.net/~h_yeung/linksys_fan.jpg http://www.users.on.net/~h_yeung/linksys_fan2.jpg http://users.on.net/~teepingkoh/wag5.jpg http://users.on.net/~teepingkoh/wag4.jpg http://users.on.net/~teepingkoh/wag3.jpg http://users.on.net/~teepingkoh/wag2.jpg http://users.on.net/~teepingkoh/wag1.jpg

All your issues appear to point to the router as being bad, I'd send it back.
