DHCP Client Table empty ...

Hi,

I have 2 XP computers connected to an Edimax BR6104K router. If I'm checking the DHCP Client Table, it's empty. The DHCP server is enabled. The strange thing is that I have an internet connection on my 2 computers and MSN Messenger is working on both. Now the reason for this thread : I'm trying to use Remote Assistance and I get an error message. On the Connection status of both computers I see an IP address assigned by DHCP ... very strange (I think ...)

Any wizards around ?
Thanks for the help !
Rafael

Right click the network icon in your Notification Tray, Status, Support, Details.

Do you see a DHCP assigned address?

If under Network Adapter Properties, Intenet Settings TCP/IP, Properties, Advanced DNS tab, you see 'Use autoamticly obtained ..." checkboxes filled in for both IP and DNS, you are using DHCP.

And it is working or otherwise you could not post here.
Why your router table is not populating I honestly do not know.

If you are concerned that the Remote Assistance configuration is reflecting an outside malevolent user, the answer is no. It is pulling the configuration settings from files stored on your computer.

Yes, DHCP has assigned an IP address to both computers, and the internet is working fine. Those computers are 5000km away from me and I'm trying to take over with Remote Assistance, which is not working.
This happened before and for some reason or another (which I'm trying to find out) suddenly the DCHP table was populated and Remote Assistance was working. Then a few days ago it was not working anymore and the DCHP table is empty again ...

I do not see the connection between your DHCP table on the router being populated and Remote Assistance working. When the DHCP Server assigns IPs it should make an entry in the table.

You do not have another router on your subnet, do you?

No, this is the only router on the network. And it looks like he doesn't know to which computer he has to send the incoming connection. I also used an other remote assistance program (radmin) and it couldn't connect either. The routers firewall is disabled.

And you made port forwarding entries in the router? You need 3389 both TCP and UDP forwarded to the target PC.

See: http://www.portforward.com/default.htm
