Sakar/Mobility USB WiFi - Download "limit"!?
Hi,
I recently purchased a Sakar/Mobility USB Wifi Adaptor for use with a desktop PC. The pc has an asus a7n8x motherboard, XP Pro SP2, 1gig ram etc. I have a safecom wireless router which has one pc connected via ethernet cable, and a laptop connected perfectly fine with an integrated wifi chipset. I have tested the USB stick in my laptop, disabled onboard wifi, and the thing works fine, no problems. On the desktop pc however, it will only transfer a small amount of data (looks to be around 2megs) before it stops working again. I have downloaded the latest drivers from the website, and have even just done a fresh install of XP. The signal strength is 100% untill it starts to get close to the '2meg limit' and then the 'link quality' goes right down from 100% to about 50% and then it cuts off. The program that came with it shows that it still tries to reconnect to the network every few seconds, but it cant connect. I can get the connection to work again (untill it reaches its limit again) if I restart the PC or if I go to... 'network connections -> wireless network properties -> USB Network Adaptor Properties -> Change any of the advanced settings (power saving, fragmentation threshold, rate, RTS etc)' I have tried changing all these from auto to various values but no luck. The wirelss router recognises the PC when its connected and reports no problems. I have tried restarting my router many times and the network is currently Open with no WEP etc so that shouldnt be a problem for the USB stick. I have noticed on my laptop that it has a 'Local Area Connection on Linux IGD' connection in the network section. Could this be what I need to install on my desktop PC? Any help greatly appreciated, Cheers, WoJ |
