problems connecting to internet via router and ethernet
hi,
last night my internet suddenly stopped working. i connect to the internet via a router and a ethernet cable. thing tht i have tried are renewing the ip address by right clicking on the lan icon but it takes ages then says that this can not be complete, i then clicked on run>cmd and typed ipconfig and i got autoconfiguration ip... 169.xxx.xxx.xxx subnet mask 225.225.0.0 default gateway.. nothing i dont think its the router because my other pc is working fine. this problem has happened a few times now and ive been able to fix it by clicking on stuff :S :P bbut i cant fix it this time. can you please help me out. thanks for your time, ali. |

The symptoms are that your machine can't connect to a DHCP server, that being the router. I'd start by checking the cable, and trying a different port on the router. If that doesn't work, try this Automated WINSOCK Fix for XP, reboot and test.
If you still have problems, try this procedure, reboot and test. TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2. For these commands, Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt. Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset reset.log
