Ok, I don't have nearly enough information so answer these questions:
1. is your router set up as a DHCP and what is the range?
2. What model router is it?
3. Is the laptop wireless or wired?
4. When you have a machine connected to the internet are you getting a private ip address? eg 192.168.x.x
--check using start>run>type CMD and click ok. From the command prompt, type ipconfig /all and hit enter.
Now, your "gateway" should be the ip of the router, your computer should be set as a DHCP client ("dhcp enabled") and should get it's ip from the router (under a basic setup). So, it should look something like this:
Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes
Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.10.7
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.10.2
DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.10.2
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.10.254
151.164.14.201
Run through both machines at the same time and let me know what you got on each. I think I know what your problem is.

wow thnx for such a fast indepth reply , u will have to bear with me as im newbie . unfortunately my daughter has gone out & took laptop with her so i cant do that at this time , but i will try 7 explain :
router is befsr41
right now i have net acces but cannot access router 192.168.1.1
my ipconfig is :
ip:80.20.27.x
sm:255.255.252.x
dfg:80.20.24.x
basically when both plugd in 1 shows similar ip,s to above & 1 without net acces shows gateway of 192.168.1.1.

Turn the modem and router off.

Connect the WAN/Internet port of the router to the broadband modem, it appears you currently have one of the LAN/Network ports connected to the modem. Connect the machines to the LAN/Network ports.

Turn on the modem, wait for a steady connect.

Turn on the router, give it two minutes.

Boot the machines, you should be able to connect with both of them.
