Needing Help With Wireless Network Connection
Ok...I'm trying to fix my friends computer with wireless connections and I found out what's wrong with it. It seems he doesnt have the wireless network connection icon that I have. I'm not sure where its at, he could've deleted it, I've tried searching for it on his computer and it doesnt have it or atleast can't find it. If you need to know I'm using 802.11 wireless lan adapter, and his OS is XP.

If the computer has a Wireless Network Adapter installed, it should appear as the Wireless Network Connection in the Network Connections folder. If this isn't the case, check in Device Manager to see that there isn't a problem with the adapter, i.e it isn't installed or there is a driver issue.

Which "icon" does it not have
![]() If there is no entry for the Wireless Network Connection in the Network Connections folder then, as I said previously, you need to check in Device Manager that the adapter is installed properly. |

Ok he only has a icon for local area connection, I did what you told me I should do I checked Device Manager and Its in the Network Adapters part. Which kinda stumps me, if it tells me the device is working properly then why isnt it connecting? Well I also tried unstalling it and restalling it but it still doesn't seem to do anything different. I also moved the adapter to different USB ports, and still did nothing different.

Can you post a screenshot of the adapters in Device Manager, which should look something like this:
![]() Then in the Network Connections folder, these same adapters should appear as:

If there is no wireless adapter listed in either Device Manager or the Network Connections folder, then the computer doesn't have one installed!
You need to install the Wireless Network Adapter hardware - either a PCI card in a spare slot on the motherboard or plug in a USB WiFi adapter. |

Alright thanks I will start right on that. But is there any other way, because my computer didn't have one either and when some guy came to upgrade my internet to roadrunner i guess he put it on there but all he had was the 802.11b adapter...I don't understand.

Ok I fixed it, I didn't need wireless network connection after all, what I did was first went to start, right-clicked my computer, manage, went to servers and applications, services, wireless zero configeration, right-clicked properties, changed startup type to disabled it, restarted my computer, then unstalled the wireless configuration utility and unplugged my adapter, restarted it again, and restalled wireless configuration utility then plugged back my adapter then it started working, thank you for the help though, it helped me in the long run. I just hope this thread helps someone else that has this same problem.
