OS: Win98 upgraded to 2000 professional
|
I upgraded from WIN 98 SE to Win 2000 Professional and now my internet is not working. I have a Cox Cable modem and a Linksys wireless g router that usually connects to my computer and to my daughters' computer in another room. There are several other things that are not working also. I can't get online to download anything so I am posting this at work in hopes that SOME ONE CAN HELP ME! I need to know how to fix the problems or maybe I can somehow uninstall the Win 2000 or revert back to another time when the computer was working? I'm going nuts and don't want to call GeekSquad and waste a bunch of money. Please help!!!

As you are using a router, your internet access will be over an ethernet connection from the router to the PC's network adapter. Having upgraded from Windows 98 to Windows 2000, have you installed the necessary Win 2000 drivers for your network adapter? Go into Device Manager and see if there are items shown as not having been installed properly.

Did you install the motherboard drivers for the machine in question? If not, there are probably a lot of devices that don't work on the machine.
