Network card stopped working

My Sony VAIO suddenly could not connect to the internet. The network card [in hardware profiles] indicates it's working properly, but 'a network cable is diconnected]. Thinking the card [built in] failed, I purchased a LinkSys network card, and installed it. Same problem. Changed cables...same problem. I have attached a wireless B card I had for an old laptop, and CAN CONNECT to the internet. Both network cards indicate they are 'working properly'. It seems the computer 'thinks' a netcable is unplugged from my router. I have used the port on my router with my laptop to connect with the cable, so I've eliminated the router, the cable, and both cards seem to be working properly. ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED....

My System

Send a message via AIM to secretservgy
If that is so, then something is internaly wrong in Windows, i dont use Windows, but it may be something in properties. Can you double click on an icon in taskbar for wirelss? Does your ssid come up? If you have another computer, maybe you can try to use a wireless card into one of those, and if it works then theres something wrong with your OS (IMO, Windows is one big wrong error)

Network Wired Card Not Working

My problem is with the Ethernet WIRED network card...as I stated above, I connected a WIRELESS card to this computer and it works....I CANNOT GET A WIRED ETHERNET CARD TO WORK. The message is that a 'cable is disconnected', but in hardware, it says the 'device is working properly'....any insight????

The obvious place to start is the cable and the connection at the other end of the cable.

As I stated, the cable works fine on other computers, so I really don't think the problem is with the router of internet connection.

Did you actually try a different port on the router, or are you just imaging that it's fine?

Red Faced Re: Network card stopped working

I'm getting the same error on my Sony Vaio as well. I have a PCG-7Z1L, and I am going to take it to a specialist. If we figure out what's wrong I'll post something here for you..

snowspomer and maygb2000, start your OWN threads for an issue. Don't hijack someone else's thread.
